Asteroid Alert: NASA Tracks Airplane-Sized Space Rock As It Approaches Earth

NASA has issued a close-approach alert for an asteroid roughly the size of a commercial airplane that is heading toward Earth. The space rock, estimated to be between 100 and 130 feet (30–40 meters) in diameter, is being closely monitored by NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS). Although it is expected to pass safely at a distance of several hundred thousand kilometers, its proximity classifies it as a Near-Earth Object (NEO). Scientists emphasize there is no immediate danger, but such flybys underscore the importance of planetary defense initiatives. The asteroid’s speed, trajectory, and orbital pattern are being carefully studied to refine future impact predictions.
